Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. (Pacific) for the Labor Day annual event.
The first 9,000 tickets went for $210 each, followed by another 9,000 at $240. As the days get closer to the event, prices will go up.
Burning Man is described by participants as an experiment in community, radical self-expression and radical self-reliance.
Last year's event attracted more that 51,000 people.
The festival takes it its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy.
