Miss Nebraska 2011

Miss America 2011 started with a stage full of 53 contestants at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. After the swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview competitions, there was one woman left standing to inherit the crown from Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron.

Teresa Scanlan, Miss Nebraska, was one of the youngest competitors on the show. After being crowned the winner of the 2011 Miss America Pageant, she burst into tears and raised her arms up as Cameron pinned the crown to her head.

Teresa Scanlan

January 16, 2011, (Sawf News) - Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan was crowned Miss America 2011 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 15.

Born on February 6, 1993, Scanlan is the youngest pageant winner! Earlier, she became the youngest ever Miss Nebraska on June 5, 2010.

A resident of Gering, Nebraska, Scanlan graduated early from Scottsbluff High School in the spring of 2010, after taking double classes.

She is currently on a year long sabbatical from her studies to fulfill her duties as Miss Nebraska.

Scanlan wants to attend law school and become a judge and eventually a politician.

Her platform issue is Eating Disorders: A Generation at Risk. She was alerted to the problem after a friend developed eating disorder. She researched the subject and realized the problem was rampant. She works closely with the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders.

Miss America Pageant

Be sure to tune in to ABC tonight (January 15th) at 9pm EST for the 2011 Miss America Pageant. The pageant is presented by shoe store company DSW.

This marks the first time that the Miss America Pageant has aired on ABC since 2004. The Pageant organization signed a 3 year deal with ABC halfway though last year when the Pageant was dropped by TLC.
