Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle -- aka Catwoman -- in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," Warner Bros. announced Wednesday.

Well that's disappointing. Our money was on Betty White.

Hathaway will star alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Director Nolan stated, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

In other words, he can't wait to see her in the suit.

Tom Hardy will play the villain Bane. "The Dark Knight Rises" is slated for release July 20, 2012.

HE'LL BE BACK: Ricky Gervais will appear in an upcoming episode of NBC's "The Office," reprising his role as David Brent -- the original boss in the UK version of the show.

The brief appearance will air Jan. 27 and is described by insiders as a "small cameo" where Brent runs into his U.S. edition counterpart Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell.

Gervais co-created the much-beloved original "Office," which ran for two seasons in the UK. The scene was shot months ago and NBC hoped to keep the news quiet to surprise fans when the episode airs next week,

The news of Gervais' guest gig comes just three days after his no-holds-barred stint as host of the Golden Globes drew fire from Hollywood's thinnest-skinned elite. A backlash to the backlash seems to be kicking in. Which will likely create another backlash. There will be so much backlashing, people will soon forget what they were lashing to begin with.

A DEAL FOR NEIL: Motley Crue singer Vince Neil will take a plea deal and serve two weeks of jail time, plus two weeks of house arrest, for driving drunk in his Lamborghini last summer near the Las Vegas Strip.

Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe Vince Neil doesn't know that's illegal?

Neil agreed Tuesday to plead guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence when he appears before a Las Vegas judge Jan. 26, said Tess Driver, an aide to Clark County District Attorney David Roger.

Neil's publicist, Jill Siegel, released a statement on Neil's behalf. "I have recognized that you can't drink and drive at all," it said. Guess he knows now.

Roger said Neil is scheduled to begin serving his sentence Feb. 15, a week after Neil's 50th birthday.

Neil was stopped late June 27, less than a week after declaring his sobriety.

"There's just a point in your life where you kind of stop, that's what happened with me," Neil told an Associated Press reporter in an interview about a tell-all book.

Neil said he hadn't used drugs in 20 years and had stopped abusing alcohol. Neil lives in Las Vegas, where he also owns tattoo shops and two bars.

It's not Neil's first DUI arrest. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving in a 1984 crash in Redondo Beach that killed his passenger, Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, the 24-year-old drummer with the group Hanoi Rocks.

Neil, then 25, wasn't injured. He served 20 days in jail and agreed to pay $2.5 million in restitution to victims.

D.A. PONDERING CHARGES AGAINST GIBSON: Los Angeles' district attorney says a review of domestic violence allegations against Mel Gibson is ongoing after a meeting between prosecutors and the actor's attorneys.

The statement by District Attorney Steve Cooley didn't indicate when prosecutors will decide whether to pursue charges against the Academy Award winner. Gibson's ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, claims the actor-director struck her during a fight in January 2010.

Cooley says Gibson's attorneys presented information about the accusations during Tuesday's meeting. His statement didn't address Gibson's allegations that Grigorieva attempted to extort him.

The former couple have been locked in a bitter custody dispute over their infant daughter for months.

Why This Batman Villain?

Tom Hardy to play "Bane" in "The Dark Knight Rises"

We cannot wait for the next Batman movie to come out! “The Dark Knight Rises” has announced the cast.  And the villains? Bane and Catwoman.

Bane will be played by Tom Hardy and Catwoman by Anne Hathaway.

But, of all the villains that could be used in “The Dark Knight Rises,” why Bane?

We have seen Bane in another Batman movie: he was a sidekick to Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy. He has immense strength that comes from the poison venom. He’s powerful and intelligent.

But, is he the first villain you think of when you think of Batman? Obviously, the Joker has to be out. There’s the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Two-face, the Penguin, Clayface, and tons more.

In any case, we’ll eagerly await the release of “The Dark Knight Rises,” schedule for release in July 2012.

Have you ever had to pack on the pounds for a movie role? I doubt that you have and if you haven’t you most likely can’t believe that it could be done if necessary. Many actresses and actors gain or lose weight for roles as needed. Tom Hardy may look like a little guy but once you see him as Bane you will be shocked at how different he looks.

Tom Hardy is not going to be the little Inception guy anymore. He will be a lean mean super strong fellow. This English actor is going to have a lot of fun with this role. Are you excited about Tom Hardy playing this role or would you rather it be someone else?

I really don’t care who plays Bane as long as they do a good job. It’s going to be awesome to see him come to the big screen. Bane has been one of Batman’s best and most powerful foes. Good luck with making it awesome Tom Hardy.

Bane is the main villain in the Dark Knight Rises, the movie sequel to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight. For those who don’t know Bane:

Bane was born in the fictional Caribbean Republic of Santa Prisca, in a prison called Pena Dura (“Hard Rock”). When his father escaped from prison, the boy was forced to serve out his father’s life sentence, and thus Bane’s childhood and early adult life are spent in the amoral penitentiary environment. Though imprisoned, he’s eager to develop his natural abilities, reads as many books as he can get his hands on, builds up his body in the prison’s gym, and learns to fight in the merciless school of prison life. Bane ultimately establishes himself as the “king” of Pena Duro prison.
The prison’s controllers take note and eventually force him to become a test subject for a mysterious drug known as Venom, which had killed all other subjects. It nearly kills him at first, but he survives and finds the drug vastly increases his physical strength, although he needs to take it every 12 hours (via a system of tubes pumped directly into his brain) or he would suffer debilitating side-effects.
Years later, Bane escapes Pena Duro. His ambition turns to destroying Batman, whom he had heard tales of while serving his sentence. He is fascinated with Gotham City because, like the prison, it is a place where fear rules: in this case, fear of Batman. Bane is convinced that the demonic bat that haunted his dreams since childhood is a representation of the Batman.
