Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Today’s sixth race is the most interesting one on the 12-race Kentucky Oaks card at Churchill Downs. It’s more compelling than the Oaks, the marquee race for 3-year-old fillies.

That’s because Rachel Alexandra is running. The 2009 Horse of the Year needs to win the $400,000 Grade II La Troienne at 1 1/16 miles and, if you ask me, she needs to win it big. Rachel began her career with a loss in the New Orleans Handicap on March 13 at Fair Grounds but, it wasn’t her fault.

Her connections rushed her to that race, hoping that her talent would win out over her lack of conditioning. They were hoping she would then advance to the $5 million bonanza called the Oaklawn Handicap in Arkansas against the great Zenyatta.

Rachel Alexandra, in a file shot, in her stall at Churchill Downs last fall.

Of course, Rachel lost in New Orleans and the dream matchup never happened. The horse that beat Rachel, Zardana, is here today to try and beat her again.

Steve Asmussen, Rachel’s trainer, says his 4-year-old filly is in much better shape for this race. He expects her for run like Rachel ran last year when she was whipping off eight straight wins and beating colts three times. The New Orelans race was her first since winning the Woodward Labor Day weekend at Saratoga.

After that, she rested for the winter and didn’t get back into training until late January.

“We talked about how hard she ran last year and giving her the time and letting her stay at Saratoga,” Asmussen said. “At every stage, we were noticing something. Now, she is four and she is a lot different than last year. She is heavier, which makes her stronger but, ,she also has to do more to be fit because there is more of her to do it with. I see a bigger, stronger mare but she hasn’t proven to be as fast yet as she was last year. We’re hoping to see that Friday.”

Rachel is 3-5 on the morning line in the six-horse field and she will carry high-weight of 124, the most she has ever had to carry. Zardana, who is trained by Zenyatta’s John Shirreffs, will carry 120.

If Rachel wins, there is no guarantee the next stop will be against Zenyatta, the only female to ever win the Breeders’ Cup Classic. But it would be a step towards that. First, though, she has to get through this.

“Zardana is like a pit bull, she is tough and tries very hard,” Shirreffs said.

When asked if he would like to see a race between Rachel and Zenyatta, Shirreffs shrugged.

“We will see how things develop,” he said. “I am certainly a Rachel fan and I think she is brilliant. The way Rachel has been training, you would expect her to show up.”

Asmussen said he is not looking behind Friday’s sixth race, which has a post time of 1:26 (when have you ever seen a horse of Rachel’s star power run at 1:26 in the afternoon?).

I expect Rachel will win, maybe not like she did last year when she won the Oaks by a record 20 1/4 lengths, but a convincing win. Then, maybe everyone will start talking Zenyatta-Rachel again for sometime down the road. If we don’t see a big performance, then we’ll never be talking about it again.

The Kentucky Derby 2010 Contenders

The Kentucky Derby 2010 contenders don't seem to be plentiful this year. Among the 2010 Kentucky Derby contenders, only two have odds below 10-1. Lookin for Lucky is the top favorite at 3-1, although he didn't get any
favors with the No. 1 post position. The closest competitor is Sidney's Candy at 5-1, although he also got an unflattering position at No. 20. Everyone else in between them is a sleeper pick, which seems to suggest that there aren't a lot of high profile horses in the bunch. But this also means there are few overwhelming Kentucky Derby 2010 contenders, which gives almost anyone a shot.

The only consensus so far is that Lookin for Lucky and Sidney's Candy are the two favorites. However, the favorites in this race are often the first to fall apart, as they don't have the best track record. Although no one's confident enough to lower the odds of the other horses, they may be the ones to bet on in the end.

Finding the best Kentucky Derby 2010 contenders other than the two favorites is the hard part. At this point, the biggest challenger may be one that wasn't even entered in the race until days ago. Filly Devil May Care had to step in when favorite Eskendereya was scratched by trainer Todd Pletcher. Eskendereya looked to be Pletcher's best chance for his first Derby win, and now the hopes are pinned on Devil May Care.

This late entry in the Kentucky Derby 2010 contenders may not be the next Rachel Alexandra. But after winning her last race at Gulfstream Park, she is one of a select few with 10-1 odds behind the favorites. With her sudden entry, and with Pletcher's lengthy drought in Churchill Downs, Devil May Care will garner the most attention other than Lookin at Lucky and Sidney's Candy.

The other Kentucky Derby 2010 contenders with 10-1 odds are Florida winner Ice Box, and turf expert Awesome Act. At 12-1, Noble's Promise has had showdowns with Lookin for Lucky before, but lost each time. Derby winner Calvin Borel helms Pletcher's next best shot at a win, as he rides Super Saver at 15-1.

May Day History

May Day is the International Workers Day and most working people around the world celebrate it every day, on May 1st.

Not everybody knows, though, how May 1st got to be Workers’Day. It all started on May 3, 1886, in Chicago, when a group of workers were protesting peacefully. They were all working for McCormick reaper plant and the purpose of their protest was to get an 8 hour per day work schedule.

Several of these workers were killed, so another protest was organized on the following day, and the police tried to stop it when it was close to its end. Someone threw an explosive, the police started shooting and the result was a tragic one – seven policemen and four workers killed.

A Chicago court handled the trial of the five leaders of the workers that got arrested. All five got death sentences, but the evidence that lead to this was very inconclusive, as it was later found out. One commited suicide in his cell and the other four were hanged.

In 1891, May Day was recognized, after a demonstration was organized in order to commemorate what happened in May 1886 in Chicago.

Arbor Day

Arbor Day is a US National Holiday that is celebrated every last Friday of April. This Arbor Day is celebrated to commemorate the tree planting events. During this day, individuals and large group of populace are encouraged to engage themselves to plant and care for trees.

Arbor Day started back in 1872. The goal of the event is to plant as many trees as possible to help regenerate the lost trees during deforestation. Prizes were given to those people who has planted the most number of trees during the day. More than one million trees were planted on the first Arbor Day in Nebraska, but the it didn’t officially become known as “Arbor Day” until 1874.

Arbor day was created in honor of pioneer J. Sterling Morton from Detroit, who moved with his wife to Nebraska and quickly planted trees, shrubs and flowers upon their arrival.

Now that you have the historical background, are you prepared to start using that green thumb?

Gerry Ryan

One of Ireland’s leading broadcasters, Gerry Ryan, 53, was found dead in his apartment in Dublin today.
As for now, no further details had been detailed, but it’s sure to speak that no foul play had happened. He was found in his bedroom after officers were called to the scene when a friend of him couldn’t gain access to his apartment, related by one of the senior Garda source.

Gerry Ryan, born on June 4, 1956, has quite few shows like the Gerry Ryan Show which began in 1988, and swiftly became one of Ireland’s most popular radio programs. Ryan has also hosted several t
elevision series including Secrets, Ryantown, Gerry Ryan Tonight, Gerry Ryan’s Hitlist and Ryan Confidential.

Ryan was considered to be a motor-mouth shock jock. The Gerry Ryan Show has been the subject of several upheld complaints to the broadcasting complaints commission although once escaped punishment when he wondered if God was a bollocks aloud live on air. “Tragically it is true. So terribly shocking and sad. Life is just too cruel sometimes. RIP,” one of his colleagues tweeted.

An amazing broadcaster and unreserved character he has, he will be sorely missed by all of us.

Quail Hollow Championship 2010

For many, any news that involves Tiger Woods is old. Fans have grown weary of the Tiger-Tale it seems. However, if you want to talk Tiger Woods and the Quail Hollow Championship, you can probably find some takers. Some things just never grow old.
As it is though, Tiger doesn’t look too wonderful. He has put his balls in the water on the 17th and 18th holes already this morning. That kind of golfing will get you no where except possibly seven shots behind the frontrunners. With that, Phil Mickelson hits the course in about an hour and the world will surely be watching to see if he can handle the Quail Hollow Championship 2010 any better than Tiger has thus far.
The Quail Hollow Championship 2010 is only the second PGA event for Tiger Woods since his horrible off-the-course adventures were made public.. And, in the first go at it, he managed to set a personal record in round one only to lose is grip later in the weekend. Thus far this morning, the Quail Hollow Championship 2010 hasn’t been very kind to the troubled golfer. Hopefully he can at least get his on-the-course act together before moving much further into the season.

UMd. Partners With Vatican On Stem Cell Research

In a surprising move, the Vatican has agreed to fund a stem cell research program conducted by the University of Maryland. No, the Church hasn’t gone crazy, the financial support falls in line with what the Catholic Church deems to be beneficial research. That is, the Church supports stem cell research outside of embryonic stem cells.

The Vatican donated $2.7 million to the cause in an agreement signed last Friday in Rome. Contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church encourages adult stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research, however, is a highly contentious issue the Church considers “gravely immoral” because it involves the use of embryos, which the Church considers nascent human beings.

Dr. Alessio Fasano, director of the Center for Celiac Research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine will lead the project. He pitched the project to the Vatican himself, offering them what he deems “a better way” for stem cell research.

The focus of the research will be mainly on stem cells harvested from adult intestines. Harvesting is easily performed through a routine procedure known as an endoscopy. They hope the research will aid in treating diseases – the cells are akin to blank slates that can transform into any type of cell and also replicate quite rapidly.

Patients with celiac diseases will be the first studied.

The money from the Vatican will actually go to a Vatican supported medical school and hospital in Italy. The facility there will the give the money to the University of Maryland and other members of the research group.

Pill Identifier

With hundreds of thousands of different pharmaceuticals on the market, it is no surprise that many people need a pill identifier to help them out. The original pill identifier, the Physician’s Desk Reference, can still be very useful, but what happens if you want to use a pill identifier for a drug you don’t know the name of? Rather than pulling out your credit card to visit a doctor, there are now online tools that can be used.

Pill identifier tool

Of course, first and foremost you should ask a pharmacist if you need a pill identifier. Pharmacists are human, though, and they can make mistakes. It is a very good idea, when you get home with any prescription, to use a pill identifier to ensure you have the right prescription. Many pills with very different uses look very similar. Additionally, many pills that look very different can, in fact, be the same drug.

Tonya Craft

Tonya Craft is the school teacher accused of molesting children left in her care. Until this morning, William Anderson was almost alone in scrutinizing the case, but the Today Show took a look this morning. Here’s the segment.

I wish there had been a little more emphasis on the actions of the trial judge. Child molestation is monstrous. To be falsely accused of child molestation must be galling. And to be falsely accused and then go to trial where the presiding judge is making lousy decisions left and right has to be terrifying.

Restore Stephen Baldwin

Taking a serious interest in Steven Baldwin, tonight's ending to South Park was a reference to help 'towels everywhere. Which lead to this very interesting website that perhaps is one of the strangest ever: http://www.restorestephenbaldwin.org/

A website dedicated to the Hollywood actor Stephen Baldwin. Not a fan site mind you but an actual donation site set up to help pay the bills of the celebrity. According to the site once the actor took to God a few years back, he was shunned by Hollywood and has ended up broke.

Is this true? There is no 'official' word from the celebrity about this, but the site is run by an individual who says it is so. Thousands of people jammed this site last night as the very ending of the South Park references it.

In the end, the towel gets the rehab and lives happily ever after (no we aren't talking Baldwin here, we are talking the blue towel on South Park.) Luckily the washcloth gets his family back too. As for Baldwin, he got slapped in the face...yep with a towel.

Sons Of Sylvia

If you thought the dark-haired trio, the Sons of Sylvia, introduced by Carrie Underwood on American Idol's
results show on Wednesday, April 28, looked familiar, you might be thinking of their role when they played on "Carrie Underwood: An All Star Holiday Special" back in December. But your memory may be holding out on images vaguely recalled from 2007, when the Sons of Sylvia were known as the Clark Brothers and won the Fox' counterpart of American Idol for bands, "The Next Great American Band." After appearing with Carrie Underwood on her third album, "Play On," featured on the song "What Can I Say," the band signed with Interscope Records/19 Recordings (19 recordings is part of the American Idol afiliated family). Their new album, the first under the name of Sons of Sylvia, was released Tuesday, April 27. They performed the first single off the new album, "Love Left To Lose," on American Idol Wednesday evening. The video of that performance follows.

Another week, another Dancing With the Stars Elimination. April 27 was the date another contestant was sent home so… who got voted off Dancing with the Stars?…

Jason Pavelka!

At the bottom two was Pavelka along Niecy Nash. This week Pamela Anderson should be happy she was not on DWTS’ bottom two. Unfortunately the former star of “The Bachelor” didn’t make it for next week, but he was usre to give all the credit of his permanence to his dancing partner, Chelsie Hightower.

“Chelsie was my secret weapon this season,” Pavelka said, “I’m sorry we didn’t get a win. Chelsie’s good enough to win this. She deserved to win.”

Good luck Jason, we hope to see more of you in the future on TV!Those were the reports on Dancing With the Stars Elimination April 27.

Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner

New couple Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner finished off their night with a stop at Voyeur in West Hollywood, strolling into the club hand-in-hand sporting matching black hoodies. The two headed right over to their booth, which was crammed with friends, and perched on the banquette, snuggling and sharing a few kisses. According to an onlooker, the two "acted like they were the only two in the club" and stayed out until closing time.

• Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony held court in the center of the room at Drai's Hollywood inside the W Hotel. The couple were surrounded by pals, including J.Lo's sister Lynda, but Lopez danced up a storm and posed for pictures at the table. Still, the two were plenty affectionate with each other, holding hands, kissing and dancing together.

• Robert Downey Jr. had wife Susan Levin by his side as he celebrated his upcoming Iron Man 2 with castmates Scarlett Johansson and Don Cheadle with dinner at Cache in Santa Monica, Calif. The group took over a private room where Downey was the star of the table, chatting up everyone and keeping his friends laughing. And of course, he was the star of the restaurant: At one point, the actor got up from the table and was instantly stopped by several female fans.

• Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson shared a dressed-down lunch at the casual Asian eatery Republic in New York's Union Square. In fact, the actress arrived wearing sweats! The two sat at a communal table and "quietly chatted," says an onlooker. "They were sweet and looked very comfortable with each other."

• Dame Helen Mirren and director husband Taylor Hackford arrived at the British Consul General's residence in L.A. for the champagne lunch for BritWeek. Hackford happily held his wife's purse as she posed for pictures and joked, "Sometimes she does still act like she is the queen," before the two went into the reception, smiling.

Kristin Chenoweth

I hate to admit it, but this may have been the weakest episode of the series so far. Of course even a bad episode of Glee is better than the best episode of Two and Half Men, so it's not like this was an hour of pulling teeth. I'm a sucker for Kurt and his dad storylines, but this time I couldn't get into it. (Was Kurt honestly trying to help his dad or was he just using him to get closer to Finn? I still can't tell. ) I'm usually happy whenever Kristin Chenoweth shows up anywhere. But Springsteen? Burt Bacharach? The Wiz? I can't see these tracks burning up the iTunes charts. All in all, the episode "Home" left me a little underwhelmed.

Still, it wasn't totally irredeemable. Let's rehash the best moments together, shall we? (Plus there's some extra Gleek news at the end.)

Ricky Williams

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams admitted during a recent interview that he may retire following the upcoming season, according to an article at www.columbiatribune.com.

Williams was the subject of an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, during which he said he could envision the end of his playing career drawing near, possibly as soon as 2011. He also said "My body is probably the single biggest factor in the decision. Football is a game, especially the way I play, where if you can’t be 100 percent, you can’t do it."

At this point, it's difficult to take Williams at his word. He once retired from football to spend more time smoking weed, so using his breaking down body as an excuse rings a little hollow. He's been as unreliable a teammate as there's been in the NFL over the last few seasons, and despite his production on the field he's no longer a true No. 1 back.

In fact, one has to wonder how much of an impact his retirement will have on the Miami Dolphins anyway. Ronnie Brown has clearly usurped Williams as the top back in the offense, and with an entire year to plan for Williams' potential departure the Dolphins can no doubt locate a suitable replacement.

Williams is no longer the dominant talent the Saints once mortgaged an entire draft for. Whether he's retiring next season or not won't change that.

Manuel Noriega

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA -- Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega went from being Washington's man in Latin America to the target of a 1989 U.S. invasion, as his rule became increasingly autocratic and he forged deep ties with Colombian drug traffickers.

Noriega, 72, was born in Panama City's El Chorrillo district and raised by foster parents. As a youth, he claimed to be four years older than he was to win a scholarship to a military academy in Peru.

In 1962, he joined Panama's combined military and police force, and rose through the ranks to become its chief under the mentorship of Gen. Omar Torrijos, who replaced the force's elite leadership with a new generation of officers drawn from the lower classes.

Torrijos took power in a coup in 1968, and made Noriega his chief of intelligence. Noriega built files on prominent Panamanians, and developed close ties with U.S. intelligence agencies. Torrijos also gave Noriega jurisdiction over customs and immigration, which helped fund the military.

After Torrijos died in an unexplained aircraft crash in 1981, Noriega seized power, despite the fact that the short, pockmarked man had little of Torrijos' charisma.

Noriega developed an image as a man of the people and spent weekends in rural Panama speaking publicly about his humble origins. His official annual salary was $60,000, but in addition to drugs he allegedly had a stake in liquor stores, maritime services, banks, casinos, newspapers, a television station and 12 radio stations.

He tolerated little opposition, closing private news media for months at a time for alleged offenses ranging from personal insults to incitement to disobedience.

Noriega long served as a U.S. agent, acting as a back channel to the Cuban government, confiscating drug shipments, tracing money laundering in Panamanian banks and reporting on terrorist and guerrilla activities. An Air Force colonel testified during his trial that Noriega was "the best source of information the United States had in Latin America."

But Washington began to distance itself from Noriega after the headless body of a foe, Hugo Spadafora, was found in a U.S. mailbag in Costa Rica in 1985, and Noriega's ties to the notorious Medellin drug cartel in Colombia became clearer.

The final break came three years later with grand jury drug indictments in Florida, and the United States began exerting pressure, including sanctions, to force him to resign.

When elections appeared to be going against him in May 1989, Noriega abruptly had them annulled and installed a hand-picked provisional president before his rubber-stamp assembly named him chief of government.

President George H.W. Bush sent U.S. troops to invade Panama on Dec. 20 and Noriega went into hiding, slipping into the Vatican Embassy on Christmas Eve. He surrendered days later after U.S. troops blasted music at his hideout, and he was sentenced to 40 years in prison by a federal court in Miami for drug racketeering and money laundering.

Noriega was classified as a prisoner of war, allowed to wear military uniform to court appearances and lived in his own suite in a prison near Miami, with television and exercise equipment. His sentence was later shortened to 30 years, and he was set for release on good behavior in 2007.

But the U.S. held him pending an extradition request from France, which wanted to try him on charges of laundering millions in cocaine profits through three major French banks and using drug cash to invest in three posh Paris apartments.

He arrived in Paris on Tuesday, and could go on trial within two months.

He is also wanted in Panama, where a court has sentenced him in absentia to 60 years in prison for murder, embezzlement and corruption.

Bugatti Veyron Price

The Bugatti Veyron is the second fastest car in the world. It has an acceleration of reaching zero to sixty miles per hour in just 3 seconds. Such seemingly impossible acceleration is possible due to the Veyron’s 1000 horse power engine. Top speed of this monster is 253 mph, making it the second fastest car in the world following the SSC Ultimate Aero.
The Veyron from the famous Bugatti Company is presently among the most expensive cars in the world, costing an estimated $2,000,000. Reason of the price is obviously the car’s super powerful engine and the automated computer controlled features of the car.
Unlike many other super speed cars, Bugatti uses a completely automated interface that handles everything related to the control of the car. Other top fast cars use low tech bodies, with nothing fancy or computer controlled. They focus mainly on the aerodynamic structure of the car. They make the car low tech so that maximum weight could be taken off the car to allow it to reach higher speeds. The advantage of these kinds of speed cars is that they can reach a higher speed on straight paths, but when it comes to cornering and grip, they fail badly. The Bugatti Veyron is a completely different story. This car is totally automated and the manufacturers didn’t want to make the car light. Instead they just put in a much powerful engine. The Veyron’s traction, tire pressure, shock absorber adjustment, aerodynamic structure and fuel injection are all controlled by a super fast computer. That’s why the car does extremely well on straight paths as well as on sharp turns, making it the fastest “track” car in the world.

College ACB

College ACB.com is a website that allows students from over 500 colleges across the United States to post anonymous gossip, rumors, rants, and discussions about people and college-related activities, similar to the previous gossip website JuicyCampus.com. College ACB describes itself as “designed to give students a place to vent, rant, and talk to college peers in an environment free from social constraints and about subjects that might otherwise be taboo” and claims to promote “deep and thoughtful discussion” (Frank, Peter) College ACB separates itself from its predecessor JuicyCampus by allowing several user friendly features and the ability to regulate boards by reporting any posts that may come across as offensive. The website also has an adjoining blog

collegeacb.blogspot.com, which updates frequently about new features and news related to College ACB. Despite its continued success and allowance for user regulation, many see College ACB as a duplicate of JuicyCampus in that it promotes slander and gossip. Carolyn White of the Cornell Daily Sun described College ACB as being “a disease, contagious and addictive. Worse, it is self-destructive and undermines everything universities stand for” (White, Carolyn)

Despite its success, College ACB has seen its share of controversy due to its similar gossip and rumor style to its predecessor JuicyCampus. University students interviewed by Time Magazine described College ACB as “ranging from the helpful…to sex fantasies, gossiping, teasing friends,…[and] a lot of hate” (TimeMagazine Youtube)Several college students, such as Jared Sichel of Tulane University have openly stated they wish to “Ban College ACB” (Sichel, Jared)due to the harm that it can cause to students. Mark Smith, associate professor of communications at Truman University, states that “it is legal for schools to ban College ACB” (Elizabeth, Koch) Peter Frank states that his website allows students to “build a community” (Frank, Peter)and exercise their rights to free speech, but by allowing students freedom to post what they want, College ACB welcomes bashing of other students and provokes personal attacks that are often rooted in rumors.

Ryan Mueller of Truman State University states that College ACB “can cause damage to people's reputations and [give] others a false impression” (Koch, Elizabeth)thereby harming or damaging students emotional state. Despite the controversy surrounding College ACB, Peter Frank himself is virtually free of lawsuits that would eliminate College ACB due to the Communications Decency Act of 1996 which states that “operators of Internet services are not to be construed as publishers and thus not legally liable for the words of third parties who use their services” (“Communications Decency Act,” 2010) In early 2010, Amber Pickett, a communications major at the University of Tennessee at Martin began spear heading a campaign that would remove the University from College ACB, stating that “there is a point where you can abuse your freedom of speech” (Emery, Regina)

The website was opened in the wake of JuicyCampus’s closing on June 2 , 2010 by two recent university graduate students, Andrew Mann of John Hopkins University and Aaron Larner of Wesleyan University. The site is currently run by Peter Frank, also a student of Wesleyan University who graduates in 2012. On February 1, 2010, the website reached a record with over “900,000 impressions [in one day]” (Frank, Peter)

Tito Ortiz appeared at the Monday night press conference with his attorney to deny any assault allegations made by his girlfriend Jenna Jameson. According to Ortiz' attorney, Jenna had an emotional breakdown due to the year-long Oxycontin addiction.

Tito Ortiz, who was released on a reported $25,000 bail, told in tears: "My parents gone through an addiction, and I see that mirror again. I speak from my heart, and I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be okay."

No official charges have been filed in the case, as the officers are still investigating the "crime scene". Meanwhile, Jenna Jameson kicked Tito Ortiz out of her house, claiming that the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion betrayed her after all the support she gave him.

Laura Garza

NEW YORK (CBS) Laura Garza walked out of a Manhattan nightclub sixteen months ago with a registered sex offender, and hadn't been seen since.

On Monday, authorities confirmed that remains found last week in a Pennsylvania field are those of the missing 25-year-old aspiring dancer from McAllen, Texas.

State police confirmed her identity using DNA.

Garza was last seen in Dec. 2008 with registered sex offender Michael Mele. She vanished after leaving New York's Marquee Nightclub.

On April 11, 2010, more than a year later, kids on ATVs found skeletal remains in a field near Olyphant, Pa. That's about an hour's drive from where Mele lived.

Mele has been investigated in the case but not charged. He is currently in prison on an unrelated offense.

He was denied parole in March due to a "history of sexually deviant behavior."

Noah's Ark

Turkey: A group of archaeologists working on Mount Ararat have discovered what they are almost certain is the remains of Noah´s ark at an altitude of 4000m. They now plan to seek UNESCO World Heritage Listing while it is investigated.

A structure with wooden beams separated into a number of compartments has been found. Carbon dating puts its age at 4,800 years, which is consistent with the Biblical flood record. No settlement has been found above 3,500m in the area.

"It´s not 100 per cent that it is Noah´s Ark but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it," said Noah´s Ark Ministries International documentary film maker Yeung Wing-cheung.

Iron Man 2

"Iron Man 2" has its mega world premiere in Hollywood in just a couple of hours, but the movie screened today in the U.K., where it opens this Friday. (Yes, much of the world gets to see it a week before North America.)

A popular U.K. blog, Hey You Guys, seems to have the the first review. I'm going to try holding off reading these as long as possible but you guys feel free to indulge.

And I just came across a take on the movie from the Mirror, which is billing itself as having the first review (sorry buddy). I'm not reading it but I can't help but notice the headline: "mind-numbingly dull, chaotic and unwatchable."

Steve Davis

SNOOKER – World Championship: Steve Davis made a poor start to his quarter-final against Neil Robertson this morning as the Australian took a 4-0 lead at the mid-session interval at the Crucible.

The six-times former champion was wasteful in the opening frames and lost them all to Robertson, 28, who reached last year’s semi-finals at the Crucible.

Robertson was in an unforgiving mood and piled on the points whenever Davis left him with an opening.

He had early breaks of 92 and 63, while 52-year-old Davis was given ample opportunity to score but was running out of position too frequently and missing pots he would have made in his second-round clash with John Higgins.

Another former world champion was also struggling, as Scotland’s Graeme Dott fell 4-0 behind to Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen — a left-hander, like Robertson.

Nobody has played as consistently well as Allen so far in this tournament, with the 24-year-old dropping just nine frames in his opening two wins, and he was maintaining his form against 2006 winner Dott, who had crushed world number two Stephen Maguire in the previous round.

Allen, also a losing semi-finalist last year, had breaks of 66, 58 and 54 in establishing his emphatic interval lead.

Pearl 3G

As smartphones go, the original BlackBerry Pearl 8100 series' longevity is nothing short of astounding -- with some minor tweaks, the phone has lasted essentially unchanged for well over three years. Needless to say, it's time for the granddaddy of consumer-grade BlackBerrys to start collecting pension, so it's an awfully good thing that RIM has chosen its WES conference this week to announce the all-new Pearl 3G. Rumored as the Pearl 9100, the phone becomes RIM's very first with 802.11n WiFi support (in addition to 802.11b and g, naturally) and features a 3.2 megapixel camera, 256MB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 32GB, GPS, triband HSDPA with quadband GSM / EDGE, and a 360 x 400 display. RIM is making the Pearl 3G available in "several lustrous colors" and two different keypad configurations -- numeric 14-key and the more traditional SurePress 20-key -- though there's no indication that the rumored QWERTY version will make it to retail (at least, not yet) or that the company intends for users to be able to swap modules themselves. Expect the phone to launch with "various carriers" in May -- and considering that they've got both AWS and 850 / 1900MHz 3G versions in the mix, we'd expect to see it launch on AT&T and T-Mobile alike. Follow the break for RIM's full press release.

Update: RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis just showed off a white version of the Pearl 3G during his WES talk. We haven't seen one floating around, but it looks pretty hot -- and considering the number of colors the original Pearl came in during its lifetime, we'd expect it to be just the start. Pic after the break.

Ukraine Parliament

Lawmakers in Ukraine scuffled with each other, throwing punches and eggs, as parliament met Tuesday to ratify a treaty with Russia that extends the latter's navy presence in the Ukraine's Crimean peninsula until 2042.

The ruling Regions party eventually ratified the treaty but not before howls of protest from the opposition.

Someone set off a smoke bomb inside the building, while Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn sought refuge behind an umbrella as he was pelted with eggs.

During a rally attended by thousands on Saturday, opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko -- the former prime minister who lost to Viktor Yanukovych in the presidential election run-off in February -- said the ratification must be prevented at all costs.

She claimed that Yanukovych is "selling out" Ukraine, has "openly embarked on the path of destruction of (Ukraine's) national interests, and has actually begun the process of eliminating the state's sovereignty."

The deal was signed last week by Yanukovych and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Tymoshenko said it violated part of the Ukrainian Constitution, which forbids the country from hosting foreign military bases after 2017.

The deal extends Russia's lease of a major naval base in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol for an additional 25 years, in exchange for a 30 percent cut in the price of natural gas that Russia sells to Ukraine.

The agreement may bring an end to years of disputes over natural gas prices, which culminated in Russia turning off the pipeline to Ukraine.

The dispute affected not only Ukrainians, but many Europeans who depend on Russian gas pumped through Ukraine.

The two countries had been at odds ever since the "Orange Revolution" swept Yanukovych's fiercely anti-Russian predecessor Viktor Yushchenko to power in 2005.

Throughout his time in office, Yushchenko repeatedly threatened to expel Russia's Black Sea Fleet from Sevastopol. The Russian military lease there was scheduled to expire in 2017.

Yanukovych said the new deal added a "concrete and pragmatic dimension" to centuries of relations between Ukrainians and Russians.

Opposition groups in Ukraine, however, were quick to denounce the agreement. Yuschenko's "Our Ukraine" party said the treaty would lead to the "Russification" of Ukraine.

Nokia N8

If you're a Symbian fan, a Nokia fan, or simply a lover of 12 megapixel cameraphone sensors, it's a great week to be alive what with the mighty N8's specs and Eldar Murtazin-penned mini-review all going live ahead of Nokia's official unveiling. But wait, the N8 fest isn't over quite yet: the AWS 3G version of the phone just garnered the FCC's blessings, turns out. How do we know this is the T-Mobile-ready N8, exactly? Well, the device is listed simply by its internal code, RM-596, throughout the paperwork -- but the shape of the FCC ID label (which is laser etched, as the filing points out) is exactly what we'd expect given the shots of the N8 we've seen so far, and it looks like it'll appear on the endcap of the phone with the camera hump visible just underneath. Given the leaked specs, we're expecting a version with T-Mobile support anyway, so we're nearly certain this is it. If Murtazin's take on Symbian^3 is any indication, there might not be much reason to get stoked about this thing -- but hey, at least the FCC is going to be totally cool with you blowing your cash on it.

Shilpa Tweets Allegations Are Untrue

Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals seems to be in trouble with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In fact, BCCI chief Shashank Manohar said on Monday that he's not sure that either Shetty, or her husband, are genuine owners of the team. That's because, according to Manohar, they don't figure in the shareholders' documents for the team.

"Modi made a statement that the entire world knows who the shareholders are but the fact is that not even the Governing Council members know about Rajasthan Royals. I did not find the names of Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra in the papers and they claim to be stakeholders," he said.

Shilpa's response on Twitter "Woke up & heard on TV that we're not co-owners of RR! There's no doubt Raj is a stake holder & I'm the brand ambassador."
